Canandaigua Youth Night - Final Varsity Regular Season Game

On Thursday, 5/22, 6:30pm, Canandaigua Lacrosse will celebrate Canandaigua Youth Night at the final Varsity regular season game.  All Canandaigua Lacrosse players and their parents, youth thru JV, are invited to attend the game.  The youth teams will parade onto the field before the game and will participate in a special introduction of the Varsity team.  There will be a free hot dog at the concession stand for any Canandaigua Lacrosse player wearing his jersey.  Don't be late to this game!   The Canandaigua Varsity Braves have clinched the Finger Lakes Division 1 title and had an impressive win over previously unbeaten Hamburg last Saturday night, 17-9.  They are currently 17-0 overall, 5-0 in league play, and ranked #5 in the NYS Sportswriters poll.

Drop Offs at the Concession Stand

Please take this opportunity to search through your closets for unneeded used lacrosse gear.  We are still collecting cleats and other used youth lacrosse equipment for the inner city Rochester club youth program.  Bring the gear to the game tomorrow and drop it off at the concession stand.

Also we will be collecting for the www.anysoldier.com program mentioned in the 5/15 newsletter.  There will be a drop box at the concession stand.  There is a page full of ideas for needed supplies on the site.  Here is an excerpt from MSgt Westerfield's web page for specific suggestions:

9. Rqsts: Liquid shower soap, black/green mil socks, Microfiber dusters, anti-static wipes for laptops, colorful pictures-beach, mountains/streams, room deodorizers. Anything to remind us of the States, we have Marines from around the country so everything is a memory for someone. Magazines for latests fashion/audio/vehicle/hunting/vacation/family stuff. Small room decorations, doilies, runners for Marines rooms to help make them homey. Laptop games. Concrete wall anchors and concrete drill bits, 1/4". Sticky wall hangers. Holiday decorations.
Metal darts for dart boards!
The Marines range in age from 19 to 47(me)! The tastes are as varied as the ages. We do not wear civilian clothers so color is a big thing. Marines are normally either at work, in their tins or at the gym. The weather is extremely hot which makes relaxation a challenge. Skin care products are always needed.
We can never show our appreciation for all that you do for us. This little contact helps keep the Marines movitated and happy. The little things do really mean the most. Thank you all from the bottoms of our hearts and may God bless and keep you. Very respectfully, Steven T. Westerfield MSgt, USMC 29years of service. These Marines are the best I've ever seen and they are working their hearts out in miserable conditions while smiling and joking. You all are part of that happiness they enjoy. Semper Fi

JV team on a roll

The CA JV team traveled to Orchard Park last Saturday to take on the powerhouse from Section VI and won 7-3.   The game started out in OP's favor as the young Braves went down 2-0 but battled back to a halftime deficit of 3-2.  The Braves, led by Coach York,  made some adjustments at halftime and held the Quakers scoreless in the second half while putting up 4 goals.  The game was very fast and physical but it was just the kind of game this team likes to play,  They are currently undefeated at 16-0 and have 2 remaining games - tonight at 5pm at Victor and then a big showdown next Wednesday at home against also unbeaten Fairport.

Modified Marathon game today

Today the Modified teams will square off in fun fundraising effort.  They will be playing 20 quarters of lacrosse against each other to raise money for Canandaigua Lacrosse.  The boys have been out the past few weeks gaining sponsors to support the program and in hopes of raising one of the top amounts to win a prize.  This year Laxworld, Canandaigua Lacrosse's #1 sponsor, has donated a Lax Wall, and the Booster Club has donated some Varsity gloves, and apparel including a shooting shirt and shorts.

Concession Stand help needed

The Booster Club is seeking help to work the concession stand in the remaining home game, Thu 5/22 7pm.  This is a good fundraiser for the Club, which supports players in all levels K-12, and adds to the atmosphere at home games.  The concession stand is set up with a great view of the whole field and is a lot of fun to work.  This is an easy way to give back to the program.  If you can help please contact Jim Garling.

Alumni - Where are they now?

Trevor Money, a 2002 graduate. recently deployed to Iraq for a 15 month tour of duty.  Trevor was one of the original members of the CA youth lacrosse program, and his father Tim helped coach for several years even after Trevor had moved on to the modified program.   All of Canandaigua Lacrosse's thoughts and prayers are with Trevor.
