JV Team Finishes Undefeated

Tonight the Canandaigua Braves JV team capped off their season by beating previously unbeaten Fairport 6-5 in a come-from-behind thriller.  Down 3-0 in the first half, and 5-2 at halftime, Coach York made the appropriate adjustments, and the kids dug deep and out-hustled and out-played the Red Raiders in the second half to pull out the 6-5 win.   The JV team has traveled all over this season searching for competition and won down at Corning East 5-4, and up in Orchard Park 7-5, in another come-from-behind, second half shutout.  Outside of the Finger Lakes they also beat Webster Thomas, Webster Schroeder, and Irondequoit.  Incredibly, the current ophomore class has now gone undefeated for their time at the JV level compiling an overall 39-0 record.  Congratulations to Coach York, Coach Rice, Coach Buck, and the JV team.  The future looks bright!

Varsity Heads into Sectionals

The #1 seeded Canandaigua Braves Varsity team started the road to a sectional title this week by beating Greece Arc/Oly in the Out bracket for the Section V Class A tournament.  They will face Pittsford, the #9 seed, this Friday, 5/30, at 7pm on Exhibition field.  This will be the last home game for the Varsity team who are now 19-0 and ranked #4 in the NYSSWA poll.

Ganandagan Youth Lacrosse Celebration

On Saturday June 7th, the Canandaigua Youth teams will all play games at Victor and then will visit Ganandagan in Victor to celebrate the sport of lacrosse - the Creator's Game - with demonstrations, Native American games, and stories about the history of lacrosse.  Lunch will be provided.  This important celebration of our favorite sport and the invaluable understanding or its origins is sponsored by Victor Youth Lacrosse and the curators of the Ganandagan Historic site.

How YOU can Give Back

Having a great lacrosse season?  Whether this is your first season or last with Canandaigua Lacrosse I think you can see it takes alot of volunteerism and giving to create a fun and successful program.  There are a few ways you can give back to the program:

1) Concession Stand - We need volunteers to work the concession stand one last time this Friday, 5/30, 7pm.  If you can help please contact Jim Garling.

2) Used Equipment Donation - Please take this last opportunity to search through your closets for unneeded used lacrosse gear.  We are still collecting cleats and other used youth lacrosse equipment for the inner city Rochester club youth program.  Bring the gear to the game Friday and drop it off at the concession stand.

3) Canandaigua Invitational Lacrosse Tournament - The Booster Club has begun organization of the tournament.  This has turned into a major fundraiser of the Canandaigua Lacrosse Booster Club.  It is run by volunteers and we are in need of a huge work force in order to make it as big a success as it has become. We have worked hard to uphold a reputation as one of the finest tournaments in the area. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO CONTINUE. Please contact Cindy Alves to let her know how you can volunteer.

4) www.anysoldier.com - Also we will be collecting for the www.anysoldier.com program mentioned in the 5/15 newsletter.  There will be a drop box at the concession stand.  There is a page full of ideas for needed supplies on the site.  Here is an excerpt from MSgt Westerfield's web page for specific suggestions:

9. Rqsts: Liquid shower soap, black/green mil socks, Microfiber dusters, anti-static wipes for laptops, colorful pictures-beach, mountains/streams, room deodorizers. Anything to remind us of the States, we have Marines from around the country so everything is a memory for someone. Magazines for latests fashion/audio/vehicle/hunting/vacation/family stuff. Small room decorations, doilies, runners for Marines rooms to help make them homey. Laptop games. Concrete wall anchors and concrete drill bits, 1/4". Sticky wall hangers. Holiday decorations.
Metal darts for dart boards!
The Marines range in age from 19 to 47(me)! The tastes are as varied as the ages. We do not wear civilian clothers so color is a big thing. Marines are normally either at work, in their tins or at the gym. The weather is extremely hot which makes relaxation a challenge. Skin care products are always needed.
We can never show our appreciation for all that you do for us. This little contact helps keep the Marines movitated and happy. The little things do really mean the most. Thank you all from the bottoms of our hearts and may God bless and keep you. Very respectfully, Steven T. Westerfield MSgt, USMC 29years of service. These Marines are the best I've ever seen and they are working their hearts out in miserable conditions while smiling and joking. You all are part of that happiness they enjoy. Semper Fi
