Canandaigua Varsity Boys win second straight Section V title

The Canandaigua Boys Lacrosse team defeated Irondequoit in amazingly familiar fashion on Friday night, 17-6. This is the second straight section V title, and 8th ever. Leading the way was Deven Alves with 5 goals and 3 assists, who was named Section V Class B Tournament MVP. 9 Braves got on the scoreboard.

Marshall Johnson picked up where he left off last year with complete domination at the faceoff X, winning 18 of 19 with his only loss on a technical. The Braves also won the groundball battle handily, getting 34 of 47. CA won every quarter and the game was only tied once at 1-1. There is a great write-up here, and here.

Next up is Section VI champion Hamburg. The Bulldogs are 18-2, with one of their losses at the hands of Canandaigua on 5/1 10-6. Their only other loss was to Penn Yan in overtime. Hamburg defeated Sweet Home 14-6 to win the Section VI title and another shot at Canandaigua in the Western Regional. The game will be held on Tuesday, 6/9, 8PM, at St John Fisher.

Canandaigua Varsity Girls advance to the state Final Four

The Canandaigua Girls defeated Section VI Class B champ West Seneca West 24-2 in the Western Regional to move into the state Final Four being held in Cortland. There they will face Section I's undefeated Yorktown (19-0), who defeated Niskayuna 16-9 to make it to the final four. This is Canandaigua's first trip to the state final four. The semi-final game will be played at 2:30PM on Friday 6/12. The Class B championship game is on Saturday, 6/13 at 2:30PM.

There is a great write-up about the Lady Braves here.

Season in the Balance Update

Check out the most recent Season in the Balance webisode and see what the Braves do to build teamwork. The Redneck Games has to be the most unique teambuilding event in all of boys lacrosse and maybe any high school sport. This year was the 5th annual and was attended by our Season in the Balance crew who featured the games in Episode 9. Deven York, Randy Groot, Dave Sauter, Mark Macneil, and Bruce Manzer do a tremendous job thinking up and preparing each event.

Boys Sectional Quarterfinal Televised Live

The State Western Regional games will be televised live on Tuesday on Time Warner Sports (channel 26 in Canandaigua). Of course WCGR (1550 AM and 104.5 FM) will be broadcasting and webcasting the game live as well.
