As I write this, our varsity is currently 7-0 and heading to Penn Yan on April 21. We had a successful spring break with victories over Fairport and Corning East. If my research is correct, the win against Corning East was only the second time we have ever beaten them.
The Penn Yan game will surely be another good test for our boys. As usual they have an outstanding team with outstanding players and coaches. I am sure they will be very excited to play. We will have to play very well if we are to be successful in this game.

Yesterday was one of my favorite days of the year. The first day of lacrosse season is always a special one for me. The excitement and intensity level of the players and coaches is always high on the first day. We had a chance to practice in the new gym/field house which was very nice. All though it is only the approximate size of 1/3 the size of a field, it is much larger than the gym and the kids really seemed to be able to move around much more freely than when in the gym.
We have a real nice turnout of players this spring. We had 33 players participating yesterday (4 sophomores, 16 juniors and 13 seniors). All though we have plenty to work on, the coaches were very happy with the first day. Many players have worked very hard in the off season to improve their stick skills and or athletic ability. Now that the season has started, I will do my best to update you 2 - 3 times per week.

Great spring break! I usually don't like a bye week so early in the season but the JV team took advantage of it. We are rested and ready for the stretch run. The boys played an impressive game against an excellent Irondequoit program. Hustle, ground balls, team defense and stellar attack play led us to a 13-0 victory. It was a great team victory, everyone contributed and did their job. In fact, it was a victory worthy of a Garbage Plate from Irondequoit hots. After a cheese burger plate with everything we needed to take a couple of days off to digest.
Spring break practices are tough with no games. I am proud of the boys for working through it. It is so important to practice over this time because it only takes a few days to get "out of" shape and they have worked too hard to lose that. I am thankful for the sacrifices our parents and kids make for the program. To pass the time we met up at the Canandaigua boat lunch for some bullhead fishing. Over two nights we took in a couple dozen bulls and a potential team fish fry is in order. Mr. Reals will cook but we need to get more production out of our poles.
This week is full. A physical game with Geneva Monday, Penn Yan today, Waterloo on Friday and a road trip to Corning East on Saturday. We need to stay healthy and sharp.

Just when you think the pre-season can last no longer and the fields will never dry out, we had a beautiful day in Newark for our opener. Only our second time on the big field the boys played very well. We still need to practice some "game situations" that you don't always get to during the pre-season, but we will get there.
I was very impressed with the unselfishness of our team and most importantly their sportsmanship. Hats off to the freshman class, they were able to control the ball for the entire fourth quarter, playing with a lot of skill and poise. Congrats to Jon Landre for winning the Coach Peltier Impulse Buy Award (a freeze dried ice cream sandwich), for a great first game. Finally, Coach Buck appears to be back into his coaching shape, getting a great performance out of his midfield. Next stop Honeoye.

Mr. Knapton may regret giving me a blog. I feel like blogging every time I look at this pic of me with the goatee. Opening practice for the JV team is March 10th and I am very excited for the new season. We will have the opportunity this year to use the new field house which is going to really help open things up early on. Our program's success comes from the work our players do in the off season, making themselves better athletes as well as better lacrosse players. I hope the off season treated you well, be ready to work on the 10th. We have improved our schedule with games against both Webster teams, Orchard Park, Irondequoit and Corning East. We will be setting some high goals for ourselves this season.

Modified Red team is rolling... 7-0-1. This week we are outscoring our 2 opponents 13-1. Ten different players scored a goal in a 13-0 win yesterday at Newark. Defense is playing outstanding and the offense is clicking.

Teams are set, games this week... Lets Get Rolling!!!

Modified is going well. We are selecting teams sometimes this week. So far, no broken windows at the Middle School which is always a positive!!! Keep working hard and having fun!
Schedules were sent out last week and there is already 1 change. Red team will play at Bloomfield-Honeoye on 5/27 (Tuesday) not 5/26. No practice over Spring Break, but make sure you sticks get used either on the Beach or in Sunny Canandaigua.
Looking forward to our first game!!!

We are looking forward to the first day of practice. Hopefully all this snow will melt and we will be outside sooner than later. The first day of practice is Tuesday, March 25 at the Academy. Players must bring athletic gear (clothes they wear to gym class). We are inside that day to take care of equipment and paperwork. Have your ride set for 4:30 to bring your son home. The schedule for practices and important dates will be handed out on the first day.
PLEASE SUBMIT AN UPDATED PHYSICAL TO THE NURSES OFFICE BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE!!! Your son cannot participate until he is cleared by the nurse. This may impact their participation in games if they do not participate in practices. Training rules, Health History forms, schedules, and other important dates will also be disseminated the first day of practice.
Again, the Middle School will field two teams, Gray and Red. Adam Stoler is the coach of the Gray Team and I coach the Red. Teams are selected by us with input from Coaches Mulheron, Hulme, Scheetz, York, and Rice. We take a lot of time and thought in selecting these teams. Players are placed on these squads to have two teams equal in ability as fairly as our opinions allow. Communicate to Coach Stoler and/or myself if there are any concerns such as car pooling, family (cousins), or other issues for us to consider for our final decision.
Canandaigua Lacrosse will take care of all equipment needs. Do not allow your son to be discouraged from playing lacrosse because he lacks gear or does not have experience in the sport. Coach Stoler and I are excited to get started!!! See you on March 25.

The youth season is well under way now and the kids are doing great. We're seeing a ton of excitement and energy at practice and during games. The kids are working hard and learning a lot about the game of lacrosse.
We had the varsity boys run our practice last night and it was a huge success. It was great to see the older kids work with the younger ones. Watching the natural interaction and camaraderie among all lacrosse players at all ages is an amazing sight. The little kids worked as hard as they have all season, each of them showing a little bit of greatness as they worked through each of the stations trying to impress each varsity player they came across. Thanks a lot to the older kids for taking the time with the youth program. It is very much appreciated by all coaches!
Don't forget about Youth Night on May 22nd as the Braves take on the Penn Yan Mustangs. This is a bitter rivalry that goes back a long long time. We'll be introducing all the youth teams before the game and we'll have the 5th/6th graders playing during half-time. Come out and support the entire program and watch a great game of lacrosse.
Go Braves!

Now that spring break is over and the teams have been picked, we are ready to kick it up a bit and really get after it over the next couple of weeks. We are less than two weeks away from our season openers and we have a lot to get through at the 3/4 and 5/6 level.
The kids have been working very hard so far and it is evident at practice. We have been spending a lot of time on the basic fundamental aspects of the game. Passing, catching, ground balls, communication and shooting are critical to our success. We'll continue to stress the importance of the basics as well as introduce some more complex drills and game time experiences over the next few practices.
We are also excited to get the K-2 kids going on Wednesday, April 23rd. It is always fun to see this group of kids get introduced to the game and start building the foundation to a great program.
I saw a lot of younger kids watch Varsity beat on Corning East this past weekend. It is great exposure for them to get out and watch the game at different levels. Hopefully more of the younger aged kids can get out and watch some more varsity games this season! This is an exceptional group of kids on varsity and there is a lot to be learned from them!
Go Braves!

2/16/08As another season gets closer, we have been preparing for record participation in the Youth Program. Equipment needs and coaching personnel have been at the top of our list of priorities the past couple of months. Dates are being set and time is flying by. We'll have the kids out on the lax field before you know it!!! We all look forward to another fun and exciting season with the kids!

It’s most wonderful time of the year and there isn’t even any snow on the ground!!! I hope the boys are as excited about this season as the coaches are. We had our first practice on Saturday and I am pleased to report that the practice went very well. We got the kids out on the grass and did our best to help them knock the cobwebs off their sticks. We’ll continue to take that approach over the next couple weeks as we prepare for the season to begin in May.
I think it is important for the kids to understand it takes more than just practice time to become a great lacrosse player. They have to take the time outside practice to work on the skills they are taught during practice. Find a brick wall and try to hit the same brick 25 times in a row! Grab a buddy to play catch with and try to complete 100 passes without a single drop! Make sure you work your opposite hand as much as you can and get comfortable with it so that you can take your game to the next level. Keep working hard and have fun.

What a great spring break, the weather finally broke and we won 3 very competitive games against Victor, Fairport and Corning East…three very respectable programs. The Corning East game is what made me proud of most as a senior, and a midfielder, the scoring came from everywhere on the field including big games out of Nick Munn and Tom Lacrosse.
Our attack proved why they can be so dangerous by dodging hard and feeding the ball extremely well to everywhere on the field. Connor, B, and Juddy are leading the offense and will be extremely important as we get prepared to make a sectional run.
Kevin and Marshall did a great job at the faceoff X. Faceoff’s are huge in big games like that and both of them got the job done.
Finally, our backbone, the defense, played a very physical style play. Roth made a huge hit and did great in transition for us. The close D played very tough on a group of extremely talented attackmen for Corning. And Scott once again, led us in between the pipes making huge saves and clearing the ball well.
Although there are those who stood out and played great games, it is important that we continue to work as a team and improve every day in practice. Our next game is on Tuesday against rival Penn Yan. We are all very excited and ready to play. I hope to see everyone out there rooting us on and thank you for your continued support.

The first day of practice is always hard. New sophomores and juniors don’t know what to do, no one really knows what to expect, everyone is a little nervous. However, this year was a little different. With a great senior class with many leaders and many juniors with varsity experience, everybody helped each other on where to go, how to do a certain drill, and with the “underclassmen’s” nerves. The new field house was great to practice in because it gave us much more room to work with as opposed to the gym, which is about half the size. However, we are looking forward to getting outside so we can have even more room and finally start putting in full-sized offenses, defenses, rides, and clears.
As a player, I can see that we are going to have a great season already by the first practice. Many of us have put a lot of work in off-season by; running, lifting, playing at TSE, shooting on Thursdays, and coming in on Sundays. This helps a lot because there is not so much “rust” on the first day and things can move more smoothly. We are all anxious to get going on the season and, hopefully, have a lot of fun and do a lot of winning.

Busy. That is the standard response I get & give these days to the how ya doin' question This is a hectic time as the booster club continues to do what it needs to support the teams and also try to get to as many games as possible. The concession stand has been running great - many people pitching in to help but we sure could use some more. Jim Garling has been running around the county to find the best prices on supplies so we can maximize our profits. It's alot of work but at least we set our concession stand up by the field so the workers can still enjoy the game.
Really looking forward to the PY game tomorrow. That is my home town and I have alot of friends and relatives down there so it is fun (just so you know I bleed red and gray now though). They take their lacrosse seriously down there and the CA-PY games are season highlights for both teams. Last year we split, 2 years ago we lost twice, 3 years ago we beat them twice for the first time in a long time. Should be a great game!

The majority of our fund-raising for this season is done and it's time to enjoy the season. All of the seasons are in full swing at last. The youth started their practices last Saturday under decent weather. The Modified started practicing a couple weeks ago. The JV have their first game tonight after having their game cancelled last Friday, and the Varsity have their 3rd game, home opener on Tuesday. The concession stand will be open but we may be a little disorganized since we are all new at it this year. We do have some experienced football concession stand people but we could use as much help as possible. Speak to Jim Garling if you are able and interested in helping. The program was picked up at the printers and will be available at the concession stand. The Applebee's breakfast was another huge success - thanks to all who sold or bought tickets or helped out in any way. Special thanks to Ellen Osborn and Renee Reed for organizing the event.
There is a JV or Varsity game every night this week including Saturday. Hope to see you out there.

Glad to have all of our bloggers register in with their first entry. Not too sure how this is going to work out but I'm hoping for great things - so far so good. We have one more blogger yet to chime in whose identity is a secret for now.
Several of us have been working on the program daily now. Seems like all of our email counts have gone way up. The advertisers are more than we expected so we're real pleased about that. I'll post a total when we're all in. Pam Helming is coordinating the parent ads which are due by (around) 3/17. We're polishing off the information in the program and the last big piece is getting all the players pictures in. We're hoping to have it back from the printer by the first home game on 4/8.
If you have any suggestions for the web site email me

Preparations for the season are underway. We've identified all of the expenses for the next 12 months and have figured out which fundraisers we need to run to cover them. One of our biggest fundraisers is the program which is under construction now. Special thanks to Cindy Alves, Susan Johnson, Dan & Donna Landrigan, Dean Smith, Tammy Stegall, and Sonia Stigler for helping with artwork and chasing down sponsors.
Other booster club events will include the youth coaching clinic on 3/16, providing food at Midnight Madness on 3/1, and the Applebees breakfast on 4/6. If you want to get involved we could use as much as help as possible. Our next meeting is on Feb 12, 6:30 at Wegmans - hope to see you there.
