Canandaigua Invitational Lacrosse Tournament Rules 

GIRLS RULES: U12 - Modified level rules. U14 - High School level rules.  Eye protection and mouth pieces are required.  2 - 22 min running halves.

BOYS RULES:

***FULL EQUIPMENT is required.  (Non-compliance with this rule results in a technical foul.) Offense & Defense: mouth guard, helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves (closed palm), athletic cup. Goalie: mouth guard, helmet, gloves (closed palm), chest protector, throat guard, athletic cup, shin guards optional.  MOLDED CLEATS ONLY.

 ***INSURANCE:  Each team is responsible for obtaining medical insurance for its own players. 

**AGE DEFINITION: U14 = 14 & Under (ie. you must be 14 at least 1 day this year or younger to play U14).  Same with U12, U10 & U8.

*FIELD SIZE and PLAYER FORMAT: U12 & U14 are full field, 10v10.  <U8, U8, & U10 are smaller - 60yds v 40yds with a 2-3-2 format..

*PLAYING TIME: All games will be forty-four (44) minutes running time, comprised of two twenty-two (22) minute halves.  There will be a five (5) minute intermission between halves.  No ten second clock.  Clock will be kept in a central location and game start, halftime, second half start, and game end will be indicated by a central air horn. 

*TIE GAMES:  There is no overtime.

*SUBSTITUTIONS: Allowed on any out of bounds.

*U8 & U10 CONTACT:  No deliberate body contact may be initiated either offensively or defensively. Rule: (Play the ball). Stick on stick (poke check) is allowed. No slashing or wrap checks. Two handed stick checks only. Incidental body contact is to be expected (i.e. ground balls). 
U8 Penalties: When a personal foul is committed it will result in a fast break from midfield with no pass required.  A consistent offender should be pulled aside for personal instruction. 
U10 Penalties: technical foul: thirty (30) seconds - personal foul, one (1) minute.  Penalty starts when play resumes. The timekeeper on the sidelines will release the player from the penalty box. Penalties occurring in the first half of play will carry over into the second half.

*U12 & U14 CONTACT:  Modified Rules - no one-handed checks, contact limited to ball carrier.  Penalties: Technical foul: thirty (30) seconds - personal foul- one (1) minute. Penalty starts when play resumes. The field official will release the player from the penalty box. Penalties occurring in the first half of play will carry over into the second half.

*CREASE: If the ball is in the crease an offensive player may not touch the ball.

*AUTHORITY:  The referee has complete authority in all games.

*LONG STICKS: Modified Rules except for U10 & U8.  No long sticks for U10 & U8.

*FOUR POINT RULE:  Any team that falls behind by four or more goals will receive the ball instead of having a face off. 

*TIME OUTS: No timeouts.

*FIGHTING:  Any player initiating a fight will be expelled from the game and/or tournament at the discretion of the referee

*PROFANITY:  Any derogatory remark made in reference to, or directed at, an opposing team gives cause to the referee to eject a player, coach, or spectator from the game or tournament. 

*PARKING:  No parking or driving on the grass.  Use the parking lots only and the designated grass lots.

*BATHROOMS:  There are portables near the fields. 

*TRASH:  Please use the trash barrels to dispose of all garbage.
